If you’re looking for a perfect getaway that is family friendly but also great for couples look no further than Sandestin. Sandestin is located on the “Emerald Coast” of northwest Florida, just a stone’s throw from Alabama.
Sandestin is a “resort community” rather than a single resort: with 2400 acres it’s definitely huge, and has many options for accommodation. Much of the property looks residential not “hotelish” so you’ll feel at home. You can actually get lost driving around pretty easily. There are more than 30 different lodgings options that are available at various price points, including suites with kitchens, and townhomes. We stayed in the condo community on Beachside 2.

Our 2 bedroom 2 bathroom beach-view condo had a full size kitchen with every utensil you’d have in your own kitchen, living room, dining room, 3 flat screen TVs, balcony with table and chairs, walk in closet in master bedroom, and stacking washer and dryer which was great to have before heading home.
Reasons To Visit Sandestin Resort:
◾7 Miles of white sand, on the beach side of this giant resort
◾On the bay side – marina, sailing, fishing, kayaking
◾Picture-perfect Village of Baytowne Wharf for shopping, dining, events and entertainment
◾Four championship golf courses
◾15 championship tennis courts
◾19 swimming pools
◾Miles of biking and walking trails
◾30 charming neighborhoods on 2,400 acres
◾Four golf courses, Junior Golf Academy
◾Free tram to get around
◾Complimentary use of bikes, canoes, kayaks, boogie boards, fitness center access, tennis court time, and other extras
You’ll find two distinct sides of the property: the beach side on the Gulf of Mexico, and the bay side on the Choctawhatchee Bay. For getting around, bikes can be rented at several locations although we never found a single location to do so. Four hours per day are complimentary but you can pay to have more time with them. Also, free “on-call” trams run frequently: simply use a special phone unit to call a minibus.

The beach is amazing – truly. The shore is perfect for small kids, and it stretches on and on. Beach chairs can be rented (classy, but very pricey), but plenty of people bring their own gear. Boogie-boards and kayaks are complimentary for guests.
Sandestin is its own little world — with shopping, charter fishing, spas, salons, tennis, water sports, golf, and special events—so it’s no wonder newlyweds, conventioneers, and families all find something to do so you never actually have to leave the resort at all.

The “Bay side” includes the Grand Sandestin, the Conference Center, and Baytowne Wharf. If you’re in the mood for fun, shopping, and eating – Baytowne Wharf is where you want to be. More information about Baytowne Wharf can be found here (at a later time) but for now I’ll tell you that my kids had a great time and never wanted to leave!
All in all we had a great visit to Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort and I would highly recommend a stay at this resort. Because everything is so spread out the community is extremely quiet which makes for the perfect vacation getaway.
